Larkin was sitting in the Cafe feeling sicker than a dog again. She had been nauseated or vomiting on and off for the last few days. Not to mention the weird food cravings that followed along with her need to use the bathroom all the time, and the fact that she was over sleeping allot lately and her breasts were feeling swollen. She felt part of it was because she was stressed out and the other part was worry. She hadn't had her period yet and she was never late with a cycle now she was over a week late and she was worried about it.
She tucked her hair behind her ear trying to stomach the food in front of her. She was hungry but nauseous at the same time which was not a good combination for her to be having since she had classes and she needed to stay focused for them not that that was any simply task on a regular basis it was just worse now. She was trying to read a book while she ate and get caught up on the work she was so far behind in. She sighed and then put the book down. She didn't know what she was going to do at the moment. She was starting to wonder but she wasn't sure. She sighed again and just sat there nibbling at her breakfast.
She usually liked ketchup on the eggs she ate but now the sight and smell of ketchup made her sick to her stomach and she really wanted spicy foods lately and she didn't like spicy foods all that much. Larkin was munching on her bacon though which was something she'd always liked and right now she was trying to take in more calories to make up for all the throwing up she'd been doing even though the coach had said she'd gained weight but was looking rather anemic so her iron levels needed to go up. Larkin didn't get it. She looked up wondering if her boyfriend or her brother or someone she knew was going to come into the Cafe so she could talk to them.
She was hoping for a good friend really just because she needed someone to talk to about what she was feeling like and what they thought it was. She was desperate at this time, the casual girl in jeans and a t-shirt with her hair in a pony tail was a mess but that was what she got for needing to be on duty at six in the morning and waking up five to six. God how she'd forgotten that she didn't know.

Ash stepped into the cafeteria for the first time in the semester. He usually tried to avoid the bustling cafeteria, but he had gotten up early for a run. Normally, Ash would run on the streets near his apartment, but he felt the need to clear his head and often found that taking the nature trail through campus helped. So here he was, bag slung over shoulder, tray full of food and looking for somewhere to sit. The majority of the tables were empty as it was much earlier in the morning than any sane college student got up. Ash knew, though, that as good as he was feeling at the moment if he was left alone in a mess hall type environment he would leave feeling depressed.
Brown eyes scanned the hall as a dark hand shifted his well worn cap. Over the months he had come to rely on his cap like a safety blanket. It didn't matter what went wrong or where, his hat was there. Reassured, Ash found himself making his way towards a blonde girl. She looked like a nice person, dressed casually with a welcoming feel coming off of her. Perhaps she would welcome the ex-marine. And best of all, she looked his age! It was probably the result of too much time in the field, but Ash found that he couldn't really relate to the other freshman, in fact he had problems relating to people his own age though they were slightly easier.
Stopping in front of the woman's table, he asked with a warm smile, "Do you mind if I sit with you?" He knew that normally one would give an explanation of why but he just couldn't come up with one that wouldn't scare her off. "I'm Ash, by the way," he added after a moment. God, he really was no good at introducing himself.

"Larkin, nice to meet you Ash, and go right ahead" said Larkin
She wanted company right now keep her mind off of her stomach. She was still picking at her food and she was hungry and nauseous all in one, weird combination but that was how she was lately. She leaned back and stretched out slightly. She looked at the guy just kind of observing him for a second.
"So did you just transfer in I haven't seen you around here before" asked Larkin
She was a residents assistan ok for the female dorm but still she did like to know who was who around the college. She kind of did it off of a habit and partially because she was wondering where her increasingly allusive boyfriend had gone off too. Ever since mid terms he'd been acting weird. And she was realizing she had been too.
She moved her stuff so that Ash could sit down and actually enjoy his food.

Ash smiled, it was a bit of a relief to know that he was welcome. He really hadn't been looking forward to the awkwardness that would result if she had said no. Setting his tray down, he mulled over her name, Larkin, now that was a new one. He couldn't help but wonder where she had gotten it. Though he definitely couldn't say anything about strange names with a name like Ashlin.
With a small sigh he settled into his chair. His legs relaxed quickly, finally easing some of the tension after a long run. Ash's stomach rumbled quietly, and the man started digging into his pancake, dribbling more and more syrup on it. This had to be one of the foods he missed the most while stationed in Iraq, and since coming home, the one he couldn't get enough of. He took his first bite while Larkin asked her question.
With a crooked grin he explained, "Not a transfer. I'm actually a freshman. I'm just not seen on campus much since I live in an apartment on Woods Street." He always loved to see the look on people's face when he said that. Normally freshman were required to live on campus, but he had permission from the president to live off campus. "It's a bit odd, I know, but so am I," he said with a grin.

"Hey its all cool" said Larkin "We're all a little odd"
Larkin started to feel the nauseous feeling again from the sweet smell of the syrup, what was wrong with her she usually loved syrup now just the smeel of it was enough to make her sick.
"I've been the RA over in Comanche Girls hall for a while so I always have to ask" said Larkin
Her hand went to her stomach trying to keep it down. She took a sip of water not sure why she was feeling so sick all the time. It was starting to make her mad especially when she was trying to talk to a guy who she was just meeting. He seemed nice enough that was for sure.
"Well if you ever want help with homework I took allot of the classes for freshmen that I didn't really need since I didn't know what I was doing with myself when I first got here" said Larkin
She'd taken an overload of classes and pretty much every class freshman could get into and her off hours were spent free loading in other classes or with Alex. She had done all the homework for all the classes. She took online courses, took her friends online courses and pretty much overloaded all year so that she could figure out what she wanted to do. Sure now she was only taking the classes that she needed but she knew what she was doing now.

Brown eyes watched Larkin as the RA deftly avoided her own food and placed a hand on her stomach almost protectively. Too many times he had had to call his own team mates on hiding their illnesses. Apparently it had become ingrained now to keep any eye out for any signs of illness or any weakness. He let it go without comment for the moment, listening as Larkin offered to help him with his class work.
With a smile Ash nodded. "I might take you up on that. It's hard to find someone to help me out. I either intimidate the other freshman or they're irritating and full of themselves," he explained. The last freshman he had gotten to help him study for his biology class had been extremely full of himself, going so far as to insist that everything Ash knew of physics was incorrect. While normally he would probably agree, the argument had been over projectile motion, something that Ash had to know to keep himself alive. As a result he had stayed away from people like that guy. His PTSD was bad enough, he didn't need to get into arguments that would trigger those reactions.
He chewed thoughtfully on a piece of pancake observing Larkin quietly. Once he had swallowed he asked, "Are you feeling alright?" She seemed nice and he really hated to see people sick. Her hand was still at her stomach and she seemed to be drinking only water. That was not generally something that a healthy college kid did. Perhaps she just had a hangover? Yeah, that was probably it.

Larkin swallowed some more water, she tucked her hair behind her ears and then looked at Ash as he talked about freshman. Larkin knew how freshmen were, she was always dealing with freshmen’s problems. Like those who forgot their keys and those who were really loud and all of that kind of stuff.
“Believe me I know how you feel about freshmen, they are kind of know it alls, and they are full of themselves. I am an RA so I deal with freshmen and their problems all the time” said Larkin
She sighed and then regarded his question about how she was feeling, she was pretty sick and it was starting to get into her daily life. She kept her hand on her stomach trying to make it settle she was trying to think of an answer for him. She didn’t really know what to say what was wrong with her.
“Sorta not really I’ve been kind of nauseous for days on end” said Larkin
She was hoping it was just stress she didn’t want to miss out on basket ball season she loved basketball and she was sort of wondering how her younger brother was going. She had no problem helping Ash study she couldn’t help but wonder what Alex would think about the situation. He was sometimes afraid she was cheating on him even though she wasn’t she had been avoiding him lately.
