For about three seconds, Clarissa wondered what he was talking about. Finally, the words put themselves in the right order in her mind and she turned to look at him again. "What?" she asked. "Really? How?" What was he trying to say? What did he mean? Like always, she made something out of nothing, and she believed she was doing exactly that now. In her head, a small voice screamed "He's talking about you!!" but she ignored it. She decided to find out what he meant. "What... what are you trying to say?" she asked quietly. She felt an urge to hold his hand, but didn't want to freak him out.

Alec started laughing and stopped walking, he turned toward her placing his hands on her shoulder,"Okay, first. Take a deep breathe." he said with a smirk. "All I said was, I do believe in crushing, or love at first sight now...That's not a really big deal." he raised an eyebrow.
"You going to be okay or do you want to sit down?" he asked motioning toward the bleachers. He took his hands off her shoulders and started to walk again. He smirked, well that was at least not a total 'What the hell?!' statement. But oh of course, it was coming. It always would. He didn't have a chance in a million years, it's funny how you like someone you can't ever have. He stopped and stared ahead, that was true. You would always like someone you knew you could never have.

She had been right. Just her silly self, making something out of nothing. She relaxed as he put his hands on his shoulders and smiled. "I'm fine," she said, her voice light and happy again. She skipped and caught up with him, grinning. She was acting like a child, but she didn't notice. There was no turning back now - she had a huge crush on him. But she'd only known him for... what? an hour or so?
She took his hand lightly, light enough for him to pull away if he wanted. Might as well tell him, right? Oh please don't think I'm a freak, she thought in her head, though her face showed no emotion. They'd already had enough awkward moments, right? It didn't matter if she added one more to the list. Clarissa wished she could read his thoughts, so she would know whether it was the right thing to do or not. She was horrible with taking hints and reading emotions.

Alec felt her take his hand, he didn't pull away. He actually liked it. "Sorry, if what I said was kind of awkward." he said, he looked at her. "I'm not really good at that sort of thing, letting people know I like them and all." he shrugged, he prayed she understood.
He kept walking, they were about half way around now. Time seemed to suddenly be going so fast, and he found himself not able to say anything. He just had to wait for the perfect time to say anything, almost as if he was afraid to break the moment.

"... letting people know I like them and all."
Clarissa blinked and looked at him, smiling. "Me neither," she said, laughing softly. "But I might as well say it... I like you." They were halfway down the track now, and farther from the stands. "Even if it has been only an hour or so...." She blushed again, but in the heat, she could disguise it has being hot. She noticed that he hadn't pulled away yet and her smile grew just a bit wider. You smile too much, Clarissa... the small voice in her head whispered. She didn't care though.
((Ugh... sorry its short but I need to go...))

Alec froze,"Huh?" he let go of her hand and pointed at his shirt. "So you don't mind this?" he said pointing at himself. "The fact that I'm emo, you don't mind that?" he looked at her. That was a shock above all shocks, most people were totally freaked out at the fact he looked the way he did.
"I mean, not that that's a bad thing. And I'm thankful you like me too, even if it has been an hour. But you don't mind how I look?" he couldn't believe it. Most people were against how he looked, most people were afraid. He stared at her in disbelief, almost as if he suspected she was lying.

Instinctively, Clarissa froze when he did and she wondered what was wrong. Her surprise turned into a grin and she laughed. "No, of course I don't mind!" she laughed, pushing her hair out of her face. "In Round Top, we don't get a lot of people like you. To be honest... I think... I think you're kind of... hot." She blushed bright red and looked down at her feet. Never before had she called anyone hot. It wasn't a term she'd grown up using. Her mother had always said 'good-looking' or 'handsome' describe a boy. She bit her lower lip and waited for the 'What the hell?' to come.

Alec listened to her and chuckled when she blushed. "Hot?" he put his hand under her chin when she looked down. "That must make you an angel." he said with a smirk. She was definitely not used to talking about that sort of stuff. In all honesty, neither was he. But he knew that in this case, he had to keep his cool otherwise they'd both be freaked out.
He stared at her for another second before taking her hand in his. He turned and started walking again,"Please don't tell me I'm going to have to carry you." he teased smiling. He flicked the hair from his face again.

She smirked back at him when he called her angel. It wasn't something she was used to talking about, especially after growing up in such a rural place. She wondered if people here really became interested in each other so quickly. In Round Top, it was... it took longer. And then the parents had to approve. And the dates weren't that good either.
She rolled her eyes as he teased her. "Like you could carry me," she laughed, noticing that they were holding hands again.

Alec shook his head. "You're asking for it..." he said with a smile. He looked at her over his shoulder,"Believe me, I can..." he winked before looking back ahead of himself. He himself, had usually never opened up to someone so quickly. He never expected to like someone that quick, and he would wait a while before asking her to be his. A few dates, getting to know her, maybe that would make up for it.
He bit his lip, they were almost back at the start. Then what would they do, he suddenly remembered he dropped his book! "Uhhh we gotta turn around.." he muttered,"I dropped my book back there.." he said stopping and turning around. "Can you run or do you wanna meet back at the start?" he asked her. He had to get the book, it had cost him money, money he could have spent on iPod songs and other junk.

Clarissa looked at him skeptically, daring him to try. She was an affectionate person, the kind that gave everyone hugs and such. Sure, some people thought she was a freak, but she didn't really care. Hugs were awesome! She smirked.
She noticed his expression change and turned her head to look for the book. "Please, do you think I'll just sit around and miss a perfect opportunity to race you?" she asked, putting her hands on her hips and grinning. A challenge. She'd raced her brothers plenty of times, tearing across the cow field and leaving them behind in her dust. She'd never raced anyone outside her family.

Alec shook his head. "I might hurt you if I actually did try." He raised an eyebrow at her next statement. "Well now I don't." He pointed at the line on the track. "Starting line, all the way around to the finish....how's that sound?" he remembered how she'd had a daring look before. "Or do you want me to carry you instead?" he cocked his head. He pulled out his cell phone. And put it back in his pocket. He began to stretch, loosening up for the race. He jumped up and down for a few seconds and stretched his arms.
"Head start for the handicapped." he teased and sped off. He had a feeling she'd catch up, he literally had to use his right hand to keep his pants up, otherwise they probably would have fallen. He suddenly realized he had pretty long strides, and for once his hair wasn't in his face. He could see everything, at long last. He let out a laugh,"You might want to try..." he hollered in another tease. He was good at long distant, but in a sprint, he would definitely loose. Loosing to him was okay, being good at everything was impossible.
He himself didn't mind hugs, he could tell the difference between a friendly one or a flirty one. Same thing with looks, or the way in which someone spoke. Everything had a different vibe, and he knew them all too well. Usually he flirted a lot, whether habit or just to make someone feel good was dependent upon the situation.

It took her a second to react when he started racing away, but she didn't wait long before she took off after him, laughing. He was several yards ahead and she was thankful she'd tied her hair up so it wasn't blowing around like crazy and making her head look like a comet. Her footsteps were quiet, a trick she'd learned to conserve energy when she was running long distance. Wow, he's fast, she thought, impressed. But she hadn't spent her whole life running across a dusty, bumpy field for nothing. On a flat surface, it was even better, and now she didn't have to worry about tripping or stepping on a rock with her bare feet.
They probably looked like idiots, racing across the track and shouting, but Clarissa would have to ignore that for now. She was starting to sweat and her breath was coming in gasps now. Her face was almost as red as her hair. It probably hadn't been a good idea, not stretching before she started running. A small cramp was beginning to form at her side.
With a cry, she lunged forward, grinning. She closed the three foot gap between her and Alec with a leap, locking her arms around his. Like a child sneaking up on someone older and trying to scare them, it looked like.

Alec saw the book ahead, he was about to slide in. He felt her grab him, he looked over his shoulder,"How the...?" his words trailed, the book was straight ahead. He picked up speed, his breathing ragged, he used every bit of strength in the process, he angled his feet for a slide. He slid in using his arms to give him balance he grabbed the book lunging forward.
He hit the ground running, the book in his hands was slowing him down a bit. He looked over his shoulder, she was still behind him and catching up fast. With the last ditch effort he continued forward in a swift sprint. Now he knew how he had missed being caught by cops back in LA. He felt himself almost trip and jumped a bit to avoid a fall, he was definitely going to loose this one.

Clarissa saw the book at the same time as he did and knew this was her chance. She pushed on, ignoring the pain at her side. She hadn't run in awhile - since she left home, actually - and she knew she should have stretched before. As he lunged for the book, Clarissa dared take three longer strides, closing the gap a few more feet. She could reach out and touch his arm now, if she wanted to.
"Ha!" she exclaimed as she finally caught up to him, the two of them running side by side now. She grinned when she saw the finish line up ahead. Several people on the stands were now watching, amused and wondering what these two fools were doing. The finish line was just about ten yards away now....
