Name: Clarissa Danny Swanson
Age: 17
Birthday: November 13th
Year: Freshman
Dorm or Off-Campus?: Comanche Hall).
Major: Theatre
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Hometown: Round Top, TX
Any Disorders/illnesses?: So far, no.
Personality: Clarissa Swanson has always been the fun-loving, bubbly kind of person. She can either be really fun and cool or just plain annoying, depending on what kind of person you are. She's talkative and not afraid to ask questions, even though some of them are quite uncomfortable to the person receiving them.
Another very obvious trait about her is her loyalty. Once she considers someone her friend, she becomes very protective. She will do everything in her power to defend and protect them, even if the reason is ridiculously small. She hates to see them in pain, and tries to comfort others, becoming quieter and calmer than her usual self.
However, that same quality can also hurt Clarissa. Her will to protect her loved ones can result in her getting hurt herself. She sees all the good things in other people, and isn't afraid to point them out. Unfortunately, she's blind when it comes to her flaws. She can see the one small redeeming quality in a person and not notice the evils. Because of that, others tend to manipulate and take advantage of her.
Another characteristic about her is her very energetic and bold nature. She's an early riser and even if she only slept for three hours, she pushes her weariness aside and shows the world her happy-go-lucky self, ready to take on any challenge. She's very curious about the world around her, and usually doesn't think until she's actually doing something - usually something she can't get out of.
Appearance: Clarissa stands at a height of 5 feet and 6 inches. She has long, slender legs and although she doesn't appear to have much meat on her bones, she's surprisingly athletic. Like her mother, Clarissa has red hair, which she likes to straighten, curl, or tie into a ponytail. On special occasions, she dyes it either brown or blonde. Despite the fact that she was born and raised on a ranch in the heat of the Texas sun, she can still be described as pale, but there is something about her skin that hints growing up in the sun.
Clarissa's style is laid-back, usually a combination of shorts, sweats, or faded jeans and a t-shirt. In cold weather, she wears a hoodie. Sometimes, she wears her old riding boots (cowboy boots) and her black felt cowboy hat when she's homesick.
Celebrity Claim: Scout Taylor-Compton
Talents/Hobbies: Writing, riding (a horse, of course!), swimming, climbing (usually trees), archery, public speaking!
Likes: boys, horses, thunderstorms, the great outdoors, sunny days, chocolate, parties, the countryside
Dislikes: people who think they're "all that", television (she doesn't hate it, she just doesn't like watching it often, being stuck inside, homework, spiders, being alone
Pets: a chestnut mare named Bartholomew
Family: She is the youngest of six children and the only girl. She and her father don't really speak (she doesn't hate him, but they just don't seem to be able to talk) and her mother is very pessimistic.
Background On a dreary November evening in a small farmhouse, Clarissa was born, surrounded by five eager brothers, a loving mother, and a father who wasn't a man of many words. It was a great surprise when the newborn baby turned out to be a girl. Everyone had been hoping for a boy who could help out around the farm and provide an equal amount of players when the Swanson children played football in the fields. Little Danny Swanson was no more than a dream now, and the baby was renamed Clarissa. Clarissa Danny Swanson.
As a child, Clarissa would spend her time riding, swimming, climbing trees, fishing, wrestling, and just about every other activity that the children could come up with. She grew up just like her brothers, but she was never a match for them in wrestling and just a bit more conscious personal hygiene than they were.
It was decided that each of the Swanson children would one day move out and own a farm of their own, just like their father. However, Clarissa wanted no part of that. The things she learned in Miss Annie's small, rickety classroom fascinated Clarissa and she was determined to become something else - something bigger than a poor farmer.
It was during one of the rare trips to town that Clarissa finally knew what she was going to do with her life. Her father and mother had worked feverishly to save something up on the third-oldest brother's birthday, and had managed to get tickets for everyone to the play Romeo and Juliet, which was being showed at the town meeting hall and performed by the local high school kids. As the shabby, poorly-directed play proceeded, Clarissa was fascinated. The idea that she could be someone else! To be able to live in a different life in a different place and time! It was amazing, and she was determined to be an actress one day.
At the age of nine, Clarissa began working. She kept up her grades and paid attention to everything that came out of Miss Annie's mouth. The teacher had never seen such improvement in a student, and was amazed. She quickly wrote to the private school's headmaster about her bright young student.
At age thirteen, Clarissa began attending the private school. She didn't mind walking two and a half miles every morning to the bus stop, through rain or shine. She worked harder, exceeding the expectations of her teachers, peers, and family. Surely, this bright young student was something more than a poor farmer's daughter!
Clarissa graduated as one of the top ten in her class. She was offered full scholarship by many universities. Dartmouth! Harvard! Yet, those colleges were not appealing to her, even if they were Ivy League Schools. She didn't want to be so far away from home, where surely it would be cold and different. And so Clarissa chose to attend the University of New Mexico, where home wouldn't seem so far away. But would she last in a place where going home to family every night was not an option?
Role-Playing Sample: College is fun, but it would be better if you all were here with me.
Clarissa clicked her pen closed and set it down on the desk. She quickly read through it, making sure she hadn't left anything out. It was hard writing for seven people, especially her mother, who often hinted that she wanted her daughter to come back home and stay there.
She folded the letter in half and tucked it into the envelope, already stuffed with pictures of her dorm, the school, and... well, her. Scattered on the desk were various pictures from home and her family's own letter, covered in barely legible handwriting. There was a picture of her brothers wrestling and another one of them holding a large bass. There were too many to name them all, but each one sent a pang of homesickness through Clarissa.
She stood up and stretched, finally realizing that it had gotten dark outside. Clarissa reached over and flicked on the lights, blinking as she saw spots. She yawned and clicked off her desk lamp.
"Ouch!"
She frowned and examined her finger. A papercut. Great. Papercuts were annoying. They stung when they touched another finger and got in the way when you tried to do things. Clarissa sighed and blew on the cut, lessening the annoying itch on her finger now. She looked for the source of the papercut.
She reached into the small space between the lamp and the side of the desk. There was a picture wedged into the corner, collecting dust. She smoothed it out and looked at it.
John, Adam, Austin, Peter, Sam, and herself. They were all sitting in the large oak tree that sat in the middle of the field where the cows roamed. It was taken a few years back, when Clarissa was just fifteen. Their house sat in the distance, and Clarissa could see the peeling paint. Home.
Suddenly, this picture annoyed her. The pictures all seemed to. They were mocking her. Reminding her of the home that was now only filled by the four original Swansons. She threw it over her shoulder, not wanting to look at it anymore and turned away from the other pictures that littered her desk. She should have just tucked them away somewhere. Everything in this small little dorm room reminded her of home!
Irritated, Clarissa walked out of the dorm room, not caring that it was too late for wandering. She didn't bother to turn off the light.
Codeword: there isn't one ^^
